The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it is not responsible for procuring or operating the 750Kva diesel-powered generators installed by ZESCO in some of the LCC-run Markets in the city.
This follows concerns raised by the public regarding the maintenance and fuel costs associated with running the diesel generators.
LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says the diesel generators initiative is a business venture by ZESCO aimed at sustaining their operations amidst the current power deficit.
“Users of these generators will still pay for the electricity consumed, similar to metered electricity,” said Ms. Mwamba.
She said the council commends ZESCO for this initiative which will enable traders to conduct business without power interruptions and fulfill their obligations to the Council.
