LCC INSTALLING STREETLIGHTS IN THE CBD

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it is currently installing new solar streetlights in the Central Business District (CBD).

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, states that, the department of Engineering and Infrastructure Development is on the ground, installing streetlights on Lumumba Road, and Cairo Road, with plans to extend the exercise to other city roads.

Ms. Mwamba stated that Cairo Road, a major thoroughfare, will be illuminated with 81 solar-powered streetlights, with 39 already installed which will significantly improve lighting and safety in the area, while Lumumba Road will receive 58 streetlights, further enhancing the city’s infrastructure.

“The new solar streetlights feature an “All in One Solar Fitting” design, making it difficult for unscrupulous individuals to steal batteries, unlike the old solar lights”, said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

She has since urged members of the public to work together with the Local Authority and guard the streetlights and other public infrastructure against vandalism, adding that doing so will help ensure the longevity and effectiveness of the new installations.

The local Authority has warned that anyone found vandalizing the newly installed streetlights will face stiff punishment.
