Lusaka City Council (LCC) Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba says the Local Authority’s K21 million drainage project financed by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is progressing at a steady pace despite the current continuous heavy rains.
Ms. Mwamba says the work for this project is ongoing in the Central Business District (CBD) and the surrounding areas.
In a statement to RCV News in Lusaka today, Ms. Mwamba said the project is being implemented by Tisse Investment Limited and that the completion period of the project is six months, which will be dependent on the weather pattern as more rain may delay the execution of the exercise
She said the work will be done on Kulima Tower area and another along Mumbwa road up to Malambo road to ensure that the areas are free from flooding.
“The improved drainage system will not only improve overall sanitation in the Central Business District but also enhance the safety of marketeers, commuters and motorists using the bus station,” said Ms. Mwamba.
Ms. Mwamba has advised commuters and businesspeople to refrain from dumping garbage in the drainages to prevent blockage.
She has since urged the public to dispose waste appropriately and responsibly, as this will help maintain the proper functioning of the drainage system.
