LCC DESTROYS FOOD PRODUCTS WORTH OVER K4M

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has, in the second quarter of 2024, seized and destroyed quantities of food products, deemed unsafe for human consumption, worth  K4,238,200.

The unfit food products were seized due to violations of the Food Safety Act No. 7 of 2019 and the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011 of the Laws of Zambia.

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says the violations included, expired products, poor labelling, dented, compromised packaging, as well as spoilage and illicit trading.

Ms. Mwamba therefore warned all suspected businesses and individuals offering unfit food products for human consumption to immediately desist from the practice.

“Those who violate the law will face legal action in compliance with the provisions of the aforementioned public health statutes,” said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Ms. Mwamba also encouraged the consumers to buy food from reputable food establishments and report all food complaints to LCC.
