LCC DEMOLISHES MAKESHIFT STANDS AT CEMETERIES

The Lusaka City Council (LCC), has  demolished 12 illegal makeshift stands at Chunga and Chingwere cemeteries, with assorted alcoholic beverages confiscated.

This comes after the council in collaboration with state Police, conducted a joint operation at 4 cemeteries in Lusaka namely, Chunga, Chingwere, Old Leopards Hill, and New Leopards Hill on 28th March, 2025.

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says no arrests were made as the illegal traders fled the scene, advising all traders in the city to desist from conducting trade in undesignated places such as cemeteries.

“Meanwhile, residents should note that the Council’s operation of maintaining order and bringing sanity to public spaces is an ongoing exercise,” said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

She said that the council is committed to ensuring that all public areas, including cemeteries, are free from illegal activities and maintained with dignity and respect.
