LCC DEMOLISHES ILLEGAL STRUCTURES AT COMESA MARKET

The Lusaka City Council LCC, in conjunction with the State Police, has demolished illegal makeshift stalls at COMESA market.

The makeshift stalls, which they used as shops, were illegally constructed and encroached on a titled plot, the road reserve, and blocked access to the entrance of the COMESA ZESCO Substation, located near the Downtown Footbridge.

LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Nyambe Bulumba says the local authority acted on a court order for those that encroached on a titled plot, as well as correcting order and sanity for those with illegal structures in the road reserve and ZESCO substation, respectively.

“Prior to the demolition, the council served the structure owners with various notices to remove their goods and vacate the premises,” said Mr. Bulumba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He has since urged members of the public to always engage the Council when erecting structures in the city to avoid being inconvenienced by the law.
