LCC CALLS FOR CLEANLINESS AMIDST RAINY SEASON

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) is urging residents to maintain cleanliness in their homes and in their surroundings amidst the already commenced rainy season.

“Keeping homes and surroundings clean will help residents to avert waterborne and non-communicable diseases such as cholera and dysentery, that often arise from filthy environments,” LCC Assistant Public  Relations Manager, Nyambe Bulumba, has said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said the City Council’s Public Health Department has since intensified inspections and operations to ensure public involvement in cleaning exercises at individual, home and community levels, thereby preventing diseases.

“The community is therefore urged to properly dispose of waste by subscribing to established waste management systems and avoiding indiscriminate disposals,” said Mr. Bulumba.

And Mr. Bulumba urged residents to refrain from dumping rubbish in drainages to ensure proper functioning and unblocked water flow to catchment areas.

He said this will help to prevent severe flooding  around the city.
