The Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation has successfully commissioned and connected a 220kW Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Plant in Kazungula District, Southern Province, to the national grid under the Net Metering framework.
Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu, described the solar plant as a key milestone in the Kazungula Water Supply and Basic Sanitation Project, which is funded by the Government of Zambia with support from the Federal Republic of Germany.
Mr. Nzovu highlighted that the Southern Water and Sanitation Company Limited has become the first water utility company in Zambia to integrate solar energy on this scale.
“The solar plant will help mitigate load management challenges caused by drought, ensuring a more reliable water supply for the residents of Kazungula,” he said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Nzovu emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Ministry’s vision of promoting alternative energy sources, reducing dependence on traditional power sources, and ensuring sustainable water supply solutions for the future.
