JAPAN GRANTS ZAMBIA $1.17 MILLION

The Japanese government has provided Zambia with a grant of $1.17 million for the procurement of critical mining equipment for the Geological Survey Department under the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development.

Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, says the grant will enable the department acquire state-of-the-art mining equipment, significantly enhancing its capacity to conduct geological surveys.

Dr. Musokotwane emphasized that the new equipment will improve the accuracy and efficiency of geological assessments, ultimately attracting further investment into Zambia’s mining sector.

“New investments in the mining sector will also create jobs and support value-added industries, and this this support comes at a crucial time as Zambia intensifies efforts to revitalize its mining sector and leverage its vast mineral resources for the benefit of all Zambians,” said Dr. Musokotwane.

He further highlighted that the grant aligns with Zambia’s Eighth National Development Plan, which prioritizes sustainable economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.

Dr. Musokotwane expressed confidence that the support will yield tangible benefits while strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Zambia and Japan.
