Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament, Twaambo Mutinta, has called upon Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to support government’s efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the district.
In his World Aids Day commemoration message, the law marker stated that the current district statistics is indicating a significant health challenge, saying that the CSOs presence in the district to complement governments efforts on fighting HIV is low.
Mr. Mutinta disclosed that according to recent statistics, Itezhi Tezhi has 8,841 individuals receiving care for HIV/AIDS, including 748 adolescents.
“Alarmingly, the district has identified 548 new HIV-positive cases between January 2024 and October 31, 2024, of which 127 are adolescent,” said Mr. Mutinta in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He said that the figures highlight the pressing need for intensified awareness, prevention, and treatment initiatives.
Mr. Mutinta has therefore urged all Civil Society Organizations to join forces with concerned stakeholders on the fight against HIV/AIDS.
