The Immigration Department has apprehended twelve undocumented Ethiopian nationals aged between 14 and 26.
The Ethiopians were nabbed yesterday, 28th May, 2024, by a combined team of Immigration and Police Officers, for failing to appear before the nearest Immigration Officer upon entry into Zambia.
Immigration Department Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka has told RCV News in Lusaka today that the foreign nationals were picked up as they wandered the bushes of Mutambe Akasuba Area in Shiwang’andu District at around 11:40 hours.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that they may have been transported from Nakonde in a Mitsubishi Pajero by unknown persons and were heading to Lusaka before they were abandoned in the bush,” said Mr. Nshinka.
Mr. Nshinka said an abandoned Mitsubishi Pajero Vehicle Registration number BAG 4282 was later discovered in the area.
He said it is believed that there could be more suspects apart from the driver of the Pajero, who are yet to be nabbed and that the search for them has continued.
