The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has commended the electronic media for raising awareness about environmental challenges affecting the country and the world at large.
IBA’s message comes as Zambia commemorates the 2024 World Press Freedom Day under the theme, “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of Environmental Crisis.
IBA Acting Executive Director Eustace Nkandu has told RCV News today that radio and television stations should continue to report on environmental matters.
Mr. Nkandu said this will result in a society that is more informed, engaged, and environmentally conscious with values that protect the environment for generations to come.
“Broadcasting stations have a crucial role to play in raising awareness, and providing a platform for communities to dialogue on environmental issues affecting communities”, said Mr. Nkandu.
Mr. Nkandu said this year’s theme is timely as it comes when the country and many parts of the world are experiencing the effects of pressing environmental issues.
