I MAINTAIN, ECL SHOULD BE BURIED IN ZAMBIA – HH

President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated that his desire is for the late former President Edgar Lungu to be buried in Zambia, stating that this would be the most appropriate and respectful decision, given that Zambia is his birthplace.

Speaking at State House today when the Executive of the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) paid a courtesy call on him, President Hichilema emphasized that laying the late President to rest on Zambian soil is not only culturally significant, but also in line with the expectations of the people.

“While President Lungu is undoubtedly a member of his family, he also belongs to the nation because he chose to serve as Head of State and therefore, the tug-of-war is unnecessary,” said Mr. Hichilema.

He further stressed that the late President deserves a dignified burial befitting his status as a former Head of State, adding that if he is not buried in Zambia, it would not be by government’s will, but due to circumstances beyond its control.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema expressed concern over the growing levels of hatred and hostility among Zambians on social media.

He questioned whether the country has strayed from its values as a declared Christian nation.

He called on citizens to embrace love, peace, and unity, urging Zambians to live up to the ideals of a Christian nation.
