Neelkanth Director, Anand Wadhwan, along with the company’s Operations Manager, Raphael Mundeya, has been arrested and charged with possession of stolen goods and dealing in scrap metal without proper licensing.
“The charges stem from a major operation that uncovered over 4 tonnes of cables believed to be stolen property from ZESCO,” ZESCO Spokesperson Matongo Maumbi has said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Maumbi said the accused duo is set to appear in the Ndola Magistrate Court on 15th October 2024 at 09:00 hours for plea.
And Mr. Maumbi said ZESCO conducted several operations targeting vandalism, theft, fraud, corruption, and abuse of motor vehicles in the past week, where property valued at over K397 000 across all crimes, were recovered.
“The corporation successfully recorded 15 arrests and secured 3 convictions,” said Mr. Maumbi.
Mr. Maumbi said a total of 52 cases were reported, leading to a loss of property valued at over K1.3M, compared to 37 cases and property losses of K532,179.91 recorded the previous week.
“Vandalism was the major contributor, with 39 cases, a 30% increase from the 30 cases reported in the previous week,” said Mr. Maumbi.
