President Hakainde Hichilema has challenged governments on the African continent to rid off bureaucracies that hinder the use of digital platforms in their respective countries.
Mr. Hichilema has since expressed concern with the low uptake of technology and digital platforms by African countries, that he said, contributes to slow productivity.
Speaking when he officially opened the Digital government Africa 2024 conference under the theme, E-government, digital skills , fintech and identity, Mr. Hichilema said that digitalization is a key factor to accelerating social and economic development in Africa.
“Africa is the least digital continent and this negatively affects the developmental agenda,” said Mr. Hichilema.
Mr. Hichilema implored experts in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sector to ensure they promote the use of digital platforms.
He said the continent will make gains on curbing illegal immigration, addressing border trade barriers and adopting new technology trends in the agriculture sector, with improved digitalization.
