HH TARGETS 1,000 MEGAWATTS OF SOLAR ENEGY

President Hakainde Hichilema has announced that government, through the Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), is targeting to generate 1,000 megawatts of solar energy by the end of 2025.

Mr. Hichilema has also called on the banking sector to collaborate with government in fully utilizing solar energy as a means to enhance economic stability.

Speaking during a meeting with the Solar Energy Expansion Financing Group at State House in Lusaka today, President Hichilema emphasized the need for increased investment in solar energy to address the country’s ongoing power deficit.

“If utilized effectively, solar energy will not only provide relief in the energy sector but also create employment opportunities for many Zambians,” said Mr. Hichilema.

He further highlighted that the growing demand and readily available market present a prime opportunity for expanding solar energy production in the country.

And Bankers Association of Zambia Chairperson, Lowani Chibesakunda, said that banks are ready to work with government to ensure there is sustainable energy in the country.

Meanwhile, Minister of Energy Makozo Chikote has encouraged the private sector to take the lead in providing a roadmap for solar energy solutions.
