President Hakainde Hichilema has underscored the need to improve the welfare of teachers on the African continent.
Mr. Hichilema said this in Lusaka today, in a speech read on his behalf by Vice President Mutale Nalumango, during the official opening of the Africa Federation of Teaching and Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) Summit.
Mr. Hichilema said that there is need for teachers to have decent accommodation and a good teaching environment to ensure quality education, which starts with the teacher.
“The welfare of a teacher has an impact on how learners are shaped in society,” said Mr. Hichilema.
The head of state therefore called on African governments to take keen interest and ensure teachers are well equipped with the necessary tools to educate the learners.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema has urged teachers to be well vested with artificial intelligence AI in their line of work.
He said that teachers should be open to new technological advancements in knowledge gathering, such as AI.
