HH HAS NO INTENTIONS TO CHANGE CONSTITUTION – STATE HOUSE

President Hakainde Hichilema says he has no intentions of manipulating the constitution for his personal benefits.

State House Chief Communications Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka, says the president has noted immotive debate and the distorted narratives being peddled  by the opposition, indicating that government wants to embark on a secret constitutional review process to  extend the presidential term limit from 5 to 7 years.

Mr. Hamasaka has told RCV News in a statement today that  contrary to the false reports, the president will continue to uphold and defend the constitution.

Stakeholders have in the recent past been engaged on a debate on the rumoured intention to extend the Presidential term.

And Operation Young Vote (OYV) says there is no justification for anyone to either reduce or increase the presidential term from the set 5years.

OYV Executive Director, Guess Nyirenda, says it will equally be difficult to convince Zambians that the 5years presidential term is not good enough.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Nyirenda said 5years is sufficient for those elected to deliver on campaign promises.

“ Those given the mandate to govern should do whatever they have within a term,” said Mr. Nyirenda.
