President Hakainde Hichilema has called for an accelerated pace in the construction of the Batoka–Maamba Road, describing it as a vital economic lifeline with significant implications for Zambia’s energy and development agenda.
The road being constructed at a total cost of K1.1billion is being worked on by China Geo.
Speaking when he toured the road today, President Hichilema emphasized the strategic importance of the road and urged the contractor to work around the clock to ensure timely completion.
“This is an economic passage that supports the energy sector and overall national development and the contractor must consider using floodlights to enable 24-hour operations so that the works are completed without delay,” said Mr. Hichilema.
He reiterated government’s commitment to fast-tracking infrastructure development as a catalyst for job creation, investment, and improved service delivery, stressing the need for urgent completion of the road to unlock its full economic potential.
