Opposition Golden Party of Zambia GPZ President, Jackson Silavwe, has accused President Hakainde Hichilema of using state machinery to curtail opposing views from the citizenry.
Mr. Silavwe has also alleged that the Presidency has weaponized state institutions such as the Zambia Police and Judiciary.
He said that the opposition is mandated to offer checks and balances, saying that they should be allowed to challenge the government without intimidation.
“The UPND while in opposition promised democracy and they should live by their word,” said Mr. Silavwe in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He has therefore reminded government to instead use state machinery on addressing the economic challenges Zambians are facing.
