HELSB AWARDS 466 ADDITIONAL STUDENT LOANS

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has awarded additional student loans to 466 eligible students at the University of Zambia (UNZA) and Kapasa Makasa University for the 2024/2025 academic year.

The loans were approved by the Loans Committee during its meeting on February 19, 2025.

Board Manager for Corporate Communications and Customer Services, Chiselwa Kawanda, said that the beneficiaries include 169 first-year students who appealed after being left out of the initial awards, 247 post-first-year students who previously self-sponsored their education, and 25 students who had their funding upgraded from partial (50% or 75%) to full (100%).

“These additional awards bring the total number of students receiving student loans at the University of Zambia to 5,482 for the 2024/2025 academic year,” said Ms. Kawanda in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile, at Kapasa Makasa University, 25 students have been awarded loans following their successful appeals, raising the total number of loan beneficiaries at the institution to 430 for the 2025 academic year.

Ms. Kawanda further noted that the additional student loans were made possible through internal savings and resource mobilization efforts.
