Over 20 houses have had their roofs brown off while others have collapsed following a heavy downpour that occurred in various wards of Gwembe District.
The storm also ripped off the roof of two classroom blocks including the newly constructed 1X3 at Munyumbwe Primary School.
Gwembe Town Council Chairperson, Collet Ndhlovu, who inspected the destroyed structures said the disaster happened on Tuesday.
“This will without doubt disturb the learners as they will be forced to share the limited classrooms available and the Engineering department has been directed to urgently engage a contractor to work on the structures before it is too late,” said Mr. Ndhlovu in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Ndhlovu has also expressed regret over the loss of property which has caused several families to spend their nights in the cold.
He has therefore urged well-wishers to urgently intervene and provide relief and assistance to the victims.
