HEA WARNS INSTITUTIONS ON ENTRY STANDARDS.

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has warned faith-based and youth-focused higher learning institutions, against violating the regulations by admitting students who do not meet the minimum entry requirements.

The HEA emphasized that the sector will not contribute to economic growth if lawlessness and mediocrity in implementing national higher education policies are allowed to persist.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today on the Higher Education (General) Regulations, 2024, HEA Director-General Kazhila Chinsembu stressed the importance of adhering to sector regulations, stating that higher education is the torch bearer and should be at the forefront of the campaign of national development.

“Corruption of the examination system must stop, and corruption of professional promotion must be arrested as professionalism is not given on compassionate grounds,” said Prof. Chinsembu.

He also highlighted concerns over the ease with which degrees from certain universities are obtained, raising doubts about the competence and proficiency of their graduates.

Prof. Chinsembu has further called on religious leaders to resist the temptation to falsely assume academic titles such as “Doctor” or “Professor,” while urging traditional leaders to refrain from wearing doctoral gowns and regalia, an act that undermines the integrity of academic achievements in the country.
