GREEN PARTY OPPOSES GENERATION OF POWER BY MINING COMPANIES

Opposition Green Party President, Peter Sinkamba, has opposed calls for mining companies to generate their own electricity in a bid to relive pressure on ZESCO’s National grid.

Mr. Sinkamba says subjecting mining companies to generate their own electricity will cause further damage to the environment.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Sinkamba says the raw material mines use to generate  power is coal which he said, produce emissions that accelerate climate change.

“The solution to the energy deficit is for the nation to invest in alternative sources of electricity such as nuclear, ” said Mr. Sinkamba.
