Government has urged the public to set aside political differences and focus on addressing health emergencies to protect public health.
Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, emphasized the importance of coming together to ensure adequate preparation for health crises, such as cholera.
Speaking during the National Epidemic Preparedness and Response and Management Committee Meeting Update on Zambia’s preparedness for health emergencies, including efforts to combat cholera and safeguard public health in Lusaka today, Mr. Muchima said it is government’s desire to eliminate cholera this year onwards.
“There is need to take it upon ourselves to care and do the right thing, if not, the tradition of cholera will continue to repeat itself,” said Mr. Muchima.
He said Zambia cannot achieve progress if cholera remains a persistent problem year after year.
Mr. Muchima also highlighted the importance of utilizing the newly introduced “Cash for Work” program to help maintain cleanliness in Lusaka and uphold public health standards.
