GOV’T URGED TO SUSTAIN CASH FOR WORK PROGRAM

Beneficiaries of the Cash for Work programme in the Nalolo West Bank area have appealed to government, to ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative, which they say has been instrumental in supporting vulnerable households through income generating public works.

Ukolo Ward Development Committee Chairperson, Nawa Nawa, commended government for extending the programme to Nalolo District, adding that the initiative has enabled many vulnerable families to meet their basic needs in exchange for labor on key infrastructure projects.

Mr. Nawa said that Under the Cash for Work programme, major projects in Nalolo have included the clearing and expansion of canals and public roads, construction of embankments, and the building of temporary staff houses and classroom blocks at schools and health facilities.

“The people of Nalolo therefore appeal for a strengthened payment system to ensure the timely disbursement of funds to beneficiaries upon completion of their assigned tasks,” said Mr. Nawa in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, by Nalolo Council Public Relations Officer, Buttyson Kandimba.

Mr. Nawa made the remarks at Kalamba Primary School during a physical verification exercise aimed at addressing outstanding claims by some beneficiaries who were engaged between September and December last year.
