GOVT URGED TO PROMOTE VALUE ADDITION IN AGRICULTURE

Agriculture expert Gilbert Banda has called on the government to prioritize value addition in the agricultural sector by adopting innovative energy solutions to address climate-related challenges in the country.

Speaking on Radio Christian Voice’s Chat Back programme themed agriculture and climate change today, Mr. Banda emphasized that a lack of political will remains one of the biggest obstacles hindering agricultural development in Zambia, noting that many of the challenges faced by farmers stem from delayed or inadequate government support.

“There is a critical need for the government to provide timely assistance to farmers so they can prepare adequately for each farming season,” said Mr Banda.

Mr. Banda also stressed the importance of moving agriculture beyond political rhetoric, advocating for the adoption of smart farming practices and mindset shifts.

He further highlighted the need for proper certification systems and farmer education, particularly around local and cross-border trade as effective ways to drive sustainable agricultural development in the country.
