GOV’T URGED TO BUDGET FOR BRAILLE MATERIAL IN 2025

Zambia National Association of the Blind in Urban and Rural Areas has urged government to budget for education materials for the visually impaired in the 2025 National Budget.

Finance and National Planning Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane, is this Friday, 27th September, 2024, expected to present the proposed 2025 National Budget to the National Assembly.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Association President, Keshi Chisambi, said successive governments have neglected the plight of the visually impaired where education materials are concerned.

He said the excuse that braille is expensive does not hold water since other education materials are being imported into the country.

Mr. Chisambi appealed to government to prioritize the educational needs of the visually impaired in 2025.

And Mr. Chisambi appealed to government to look at the needs of the Blind people in the public health systems.

He said prescriptions are inconveniencing to the visually impaired who can not move on their own or afford to buy on their own.
