GOV’T URGED TO ADDRESS REALITIES ON THE GROUND IN HEALTH SECTOR

The Leader of Operations at Scientific Initiatives for a Healthy and Developed Zambia, Frank Malunga, has urged government to move beyond merely relying on available medical stock and instead address the pressing challenges facing the health sector at the grassroots level.

Speaking to RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Malunga called for a well-structured and proactive strategy to ensure a consistent and reliable supply of essential medicines across the country.

“Sustainable healthcare goes beyond stockpiling drugs, it must be rooted in the actual needs of communities,” said Mr. Malunga.

He highlighted the ongoing reports of drug theft within the system as a clear indication that a more strategic and transparent approach is urgently required.

Mr. Malunga further called on the Ministry of Health to develop and communicate a long-term plan for medicine supply, particularly to cushion the impact during periods of low stock.

“Prioritizing access to life-saving medicines, including antiretroviral drugs and tuberculosis treatments, is key, especially with rising cases being recorded across the country,” said Mr. Malunga.
