GOV’T UNVEILS BORDER DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

The Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry has launched the Border Development Strategy, reaffirming its commitment to fostering inclusive growth, enhancing regional development, and promoting sustainable progress in collaboration with various stakeholders and development partners.

Ministry Permanent Secretary, Lillian Bwalya, said the strategy will serve as a blueprint for modernizing border infrastructure and improving operational efficiency at border posts.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mrs. Bwalya said that the initiative aims to strengthen trade facilitation, promote economic development in border areas, and enhance security and governance, ultimately unlocking Zambia’s full potential.

“The strategy is a significant step toward intensifying Zambia’s role in advancing regional economic integration, particularly within frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” said Mrs. Bwalya.

She also said that the Border Development Strategy aligns with Zambia’s commitment to leveraging trade as a catalyst for growth and development.

Mrs Bwalya further explained that the strategy will prioritize investments in border communities, aiming to uplift livelihoods, reduce inequalities, and ensure better integration into both national and regional economic activities.
