GOVT TO ADDRESS HOUSING DEFICIT

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Charles Milupi, says government will continue to engage international cooperating partners to fund the construction of decent housing units across the country.

Mr. Milupi says this is to ensure the current 1.5 million housing deficit does not exceed to 3.3 million units by 2030.

Speaking when he officiated at the 2024 National Housing Forum in Lusaka today, Mr. Milupi said that government is implmemeneting a memorandum of understanding, MOU, which it signed in 2024 with China Jiangsu, to construct affordable housing in the country which will significantly contribute towards reducing the housing deficit.

“Government also signed an MOU  with Rwanda on settlement improvement and mass affordable  housing development to addressed the housing unit deficit,” said Mr. Milupi.

He said that government will continue to explore innovative solutions and building strong partnerships that will drive the transformation of the housing sector.
