GOVT SUSPENDS IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW REVISED RTSA FEES

Government has with immediate effect suspended the implementation of the recently increased Road Transport and Safety Agency RTSA user fees announced by the agency.

Last week, RTSA announced an increase on all user fees by over 25% with effective, Monday 20th May, 2024.

But Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Chief Government Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, said government during its 9th Cabinet meeting, decided to suspended the implementation of the revised user fees in view of the economic challenges Zambians are facing, induced by the drought.

“The new user fees are contrary to the drought response plan that seeks to protect Zambians of the harsh economic conditions caused by the drought,” said Mr. Mweetwa who is also minister of Information and media.

He has since advised motorists to transact using the old user fees.

And Mr. Mweetwa has announced that government has started  responding in cash and kind, assistance to all the 84 districts affected by drought across the country.

He said that 71 districts have been covered, while the remaining districts will receive their assistance in the next 7 days.
