GOV’T REFUTES ECONOMIC DECLINE CLAIMS ON NEW BANK NOTES

Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa, has dismissed claims that the introduction of new banknotes signifies a deteriorating economy.

Mr. Mweetwa explained that the new notes are designed to enhance the kwacha’s value, particularly by improving durability.

Speaking during a courtesy call from the UPND Media in Lusaka today, Mr. Mweetwa emphasized that the changes aim to strengthen the security features of the currency and increase the amount of money in circulation.

He also highlighted that one of the key goals is to make it easier for persons with disabilities to distinguish between different denominations.

Mr. Mweetwa, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, clarified that the new notes are designed with different fonts and sizes to help individuals with disabilities identify them.

He further said the introduction of higher-value notes will promote portability, reducing the number of notes needed for transactions.
