GOVT OPTIMISTIC CAF MEETING WILL DRIVE ECONOMIC GROWTH

Minister of Tourism Rodney Sikumba says the Commission for Africa Session will provide a platform for African destinations an opportunity to effectively address common issues that foster sustainable and economic growth.

He said the hosting of the 67th Regional Commission for Africa and the 2nd Regional Brand Africa conference is timely as Zambia is repositioning the destination as a preferred sustainable tourism MICE destination both at regional and international level in a bid to foster product diversification and a resilient tourism industry.

Speaking during the opening session of the 67th Regional Commission for Africa (CAF) meeting to be held in Livingstone, Mr. Sikumba said he is hopeful that the session will create a more sustainable and resilient tourism sector.

“There is need to coordinate policies for inclusive and sustainable growth of the tourism sector in our respective countries as this will spur the accelerated growth of the Sector on the continent”, said Mr. Sikumba.

Mr. Sikumba said Africa needs to find practical solutions that will position the tourism sector for it to soar to greater heights.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sikumba said the school of excellence will not only serve Zambian citizens but will endeavor to build capacity through the sharpening of the skills of tourism professionals from all over the African continent.
