Government says it is investing heavily in cyber security infrastructure to arrest individuals behind online scams and those spreading harmful content online.
Technology and Science Minister, Felix Mutati, says government wants to protect all it’s citizens and children online hence it’s investment in digital Infrastructure.
Mr. Mutati says the internet, especially Facebook, has become a place of misinformation, defamation, online gender based abuse and online scams.
Speaking when he held a joint press briefing with Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu in Lusaka today, Mr. Mutati warned scammers that their days are numbered.
He said online abuse has the potential to cause physical and mental harm to citizens.
And Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu has warned individuals who spread propaganda, hate speech and commit online crimes that they are liable to five years imprisonment.
Mr. Mwiimbu says the spread of false news has become rampant and has the potential to cause insecurity in the nation.
He says the sharing of unverified content is being conducted on a daily basis and is a threat to the peace of the nation.
