Government has procured and handed over 286 motorbikes to all chiefdoms across the country.
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Gift Sialubalo, said the motorbikes were purchased through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and will be used by chiefs’ retainers to support various administrative and developmental tasks within the chiefdoms.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Sialubalo explained that the provision of motorbikes is aimed at reducing the time spent by retainers who previously relied on walking or bicycles to carry out their duties.
“These motorbikes are part of the package under the ongoing programme to construct chiefs’ palaces across the country,” said Mr. Sialubalo.
He, however, acknowledged that there have been technical challenges with the construction of some palaces, but assured that contractors will soon return to complete the works.
Mr. Sialubalo appealed for patience from traditional leaders and communities, assuring them that the palaces will be completed in due course.
