Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, has dismissed social media reports alleging that government has sold the National Heart Hospital in Lusaka.
Dr. Muchima described the claims as false and unfounded, emphasizing that government is not considering any such transaction.
Speaking during a meeting with the Kabwe Provincial Administration in Central Province today, Dr. Muchima clarified that government is, in fact, expanding the scope of medical services offered at the facility.
“These reports are false and the disposal of any state property must be done within the confines of the law, and no such process is under consideration,” said Dr. Muchima.
Meanwhile, Dr. Muchima announced that government is engaging two companies to implement a track-and-trace system for medicines through the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).
He explained that one company will be responsible for accounting of all medicines in stock, while the other will monitor the distribution of medicines across the country.
Dr. Muchima said that the initiative is aimed at curbing pilferage and improving accountability in the health sector.
