Build Zambia 2064 Executive Director, Joseph Mushalika, says recent remarks by Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, on poverty reduction appear to contradict President Hakainde Hichilema’s clear stance on eradicating poverty.
During a conference on poverty reduction and climate resilience, Vice President Mutale Nalumango stated that changing governments or political leaders is not the solution to ending poverty in Zambia, instead, she emphasized the need for a shift in national policies and mindsets.
Buit speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Dr. Mushalika argued that President Hichilema has consistently outlined his administration’s commitment to ending poverty through key initiatives such as the free education policy and the expanded Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
“The President has repeatedly expressed his desire to transform the lives of Zambians before leaving office and therefore, such statements from the Vice President are unfortunate and seem to undermine that vision,” said Dr. Mushalika.
He added that Build Zambia 2064 believes in the importance of government creating an enabling environment for citizens to generate wealth, while also fulfilling its responsibility to provide the structural foundation for national development.
