Minister of Tourism Rodney Sikumba says the Government is committed to growing the tourism sector as a key driver of economic development.
Speaking on the side-lines of the on-going Africa Travel Indaba in Durban, South Africa, Mr. Sikumba says it is important for Zambian stakeholders to work together in projecting the country as a prime destination for tourism and investment.
Mr. Sikumba highlighted that the Africa Travel Indaba will allow buyers already on the continent to experience Zambia’s unparalleled hospitality, wildlife, and business opportunities.
“Zambia has recorded a huge private-sector participation at this year’s indaba and this is important for us because this event plays a key role in bringing together tourist exhibitors from various countries,” said Mr. Sikumba.
He said Zambia has different sites that have continued to attract many tourists, making it not only a must-visit country but also a destination of choice for Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) in all sectors.
Mr. Sikumba also noted that for Zambia to continue growing the tourism sector, it requires robust infrastructure development, enhanced air connectivity, and skilled human capital and that to actualise this, his ministry is actively working behind the scenes.
He further encouraged tourism enthusiasts and investors to attend the Zambia Travel Expo (ZATEX) set for June 5, 2025 in Livingstone, saying the event will provide a premier platform for networking, innovation, and unlocking new opportunities in the vibrant world of travel and tourism.
Meanwhile, the Minister toured various Zambian stands at the Africa Travel Indaba exhibition where he commended the private sector for participating at this year’ s event and encouraged stakeholders to connect with key industry players in showcasing the diverse potential of Zambia’s travel landscape.
