GOV’T CALLS FOR RESILIENT HEALTH SYSTEMS

Government has highlighted the need to have a resilient health system and communities to regain the milestones the country lost during the recent emergencies to expedite efforts towards attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Government through the Ministry of Health says it is using both government and partners resources to address several health system strengthening aspects.

Speaking during the launch of “The Zambia Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Project using the Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA)” Acting Health Minister Elias Mubanga said the event marks a big milestone in enhancing efforts aimed at strengthening health systems to withstand shocks caused by natural disasters and disease outbreaks.

Mr. Mubanga said the US$50 million MPA project will target the entire country and benefit around 2,055 community health assistants, 75,000 community-based volunteers and healthcare workers at the primary health care level.

“Further, the MPA will target improving detection of, and response to health emergencies through a multisectoral approach,” said Mr. Mubanga.

Mr. Mubanga has since urged health workers, local authorities and community- based volunteers to own this project and implement activities in an integrated and multisectoral manner with other government and partner supported interventions.
