Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati has emphasized government’s determination to enhancing skills development particularly in the critical sectors of the 8NDP such as Mining, Manufacturing, Tourism and Agriculture.
Mr. Mutati also reiterated the importance of collaboration with the private sector to ensure that the curriculum for skills development is private sector driven.
The Minister said this upon arrival in Lyon, France where he is representing Zambia at the 47th Eurexpo Lyon WorldSkills Competition.
“Zambia’s participation and exposure to the WorldSkills competition plays a crucial role in sharpening the skills of young people,” said Mr. Mutati.
Meanwhile, 11 Zambian competitors are expected to demonstrate their excellence and know-how in 10 skill areas which are information network cabling, bricklaying, carpentry, mechanical engineering CAD and concrete construction.
Others will be competing in digital construction, aircraft maintenance, welding, hairdressing and restaurant service.
The WorldSkills Competition, taking place from 10th to 15th September, is a global platform for promotion of excellence and development of skills for young professionals.
