GOVERNMENT TO PARTNER WITH MELISA ON MEALIE-MEAL

Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament, Twaambo Mutinta, says government will partner with Melisa Milling in Itezhi-tezhi District following continued engagements with the Zambia National Service.

He said the initiative aims to stabilize the mealie meal shortages experienced by the district due to the distance from suppliers.

Mr. Mutinta, who was accompanied by the District Commissioner, Council Chairman, and a team of officers from the Zambia National Service, visited Itezhi-tezhi District on Saturday and conducted an inspection of Melisa Milling Company for a possible partnership with the government to enable local maize milling.

He said once all processes are concluded, the Food Reserve Agency will be asked to supply grain to the Melisa/ZNS milling.

“Melisa, with the capacity to produce 600 bags per day, will sell the mealie meal at the government price to the people and surrounding wards in the district”, said Mr. Mutinta.

Mr. Mutinta has further emphasized government’s dedication to addressing the ongoing drought and assured that efforts will be made to mitigate its effects.
