GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES EMPLOYMENT IMPACT ASSESSMENT

Minister of Labor and Social Security Brenda Tambatamba says there is need for Zambia, the International Labor Organization ILO and the African Development Bank, to collectively work together in developing tools that can be used in estimating employment impacts of policies in key sectors of the economy.

Ms. Tambatamba said this can be  done through implementing effective assessments that will give an insight on the number of decent jobs that will be created by such projects.

She was speaking at the launch of the employment impact assessment for the Luangwa – Mwami section of the Nacala Corridor.

“It has been noted that the positive results attributed to the Nacala project in the areas it was undertaken in which  an estimated 13,657 jobs were created,” said Ms. Tambatamba.

Ms. Tambatamba added that there should also be a sector wide employment impact assessments to provide information on the effects of various policies on the employment and labour market.
