GOVERNMENT CAUTIONS NRC REGISTRATION OFFICERS AGAINST MISCONDUCT

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security has issued a warning to National Registration Card (NRC) officers, cautioning them against engaging in corruption or unethical behaviour during the ongoing three-month national mobile registration exercise.

Ministry Principle Public Relations Officer, Mwala Kalaluka says the government intends to keep the  process of issuance of NRC’s through mobile registration transparent and fair in order to motivate citizens, especially in remote areas, to obtain the national document.

In an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Kalaluka stressed that registration officers must maintain high ethical standards and avoid any form of corruption.

“There is no fee for first-time NRC collection, however, a standard fee of K3.10 is charged for replacements due to loss, and K2.20 for damaged cards,” Said Mr. Kalaluka.

Mr. Kalaluka also noted the overwhelming  public response to the registration exercise and highlighted the importance of having an NRC, which is essential for accessing key development initiatives such as the Cash for Work program and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) among others.
