Governance Expert, Wesley Miyanda, has advised government through the ministry of Justice to consider including a clause that introduces term limits for Members of parliament, in the constitution amendment bill number 7 of 2025.
Yesterday, Minister of Justice, Princess Kasune, informed Members of Parliament that the public expressed strong views on the proposed Constitution Amendment Bill No. 7, including calls for the introduction of term limits for Members of Parliament.
But Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Miyanda said that government must consider such as clause if the constitution is a people driven document.
“It should be uniform with the presidential term limits to give chance to other people with better ideas to foster development in the country”, said Mr. Miyanda.
Mr. Miyanda notes that the term limit will also leave more room for the youths and persons with disabilities to take part in decision making that he says have been sidelined for a long time.
He stressed that leadership is about growth, therefore limiting it to only a few people will hinder the country from the growth and development it deserves.
