A total of 10,782 GBV cases were reported across the country during the third quarter of 2024, reflecting a 3.3% increase compared to 10,434 cases recorded in the same period of 2023.
This is according to the 2024 3rd quarter GBV data analysis shared to RCV News in Lusaka today, by Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga.
Mr. Hamoonga said 6,663 of the cases were categorized as criminal, representing 61.8% of all cases.
“4,119 cases were classified as non-criminal, accounting for 38.2% of the total GBV cases,” said Mr. Hamoonga.
And Mr. Hamoonga said 1,019 cases were taken to court, compared to 1,366 cases in the same period last year, representing a 25.4% decrease.
He also said a total of 35 murder cases were recorded, compared to 31 in 2023, indicating a 12.1% increase.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hamoonga said 74.5% of the total abused children fell under the criminal case category comprising 490 boys translating to 26.2% and 1,380 girls translating to 73.8%.
“Lusaka Province recorded the highest GBV criminal cases with 1,786 cases translating to 26.8%; followed by Copperbelt Province with 904 cases translating to 13.6%.
