Zambia National Men’s Network For Gender And Development National Coordinator Nelson Banda has projected that cases of gender based violence against men will continue to rise in the wake of the high cost of living.
Mr. Banda said this in a statement made available to RCV News in Lusaka today, where he also commended President Hakainde Hichilema , for highlighting that men are also victims of gender based violence GBV.
Mr. Banda who quoted the President speaking during his address to Parliament on National Values and Principles, where he urged for the problem to be curbed, said the vice might continue if the cost of mealie meal and fuel which are the engine for families to survive, are not controlled.
“The remarks by the President are timely and will go a long way in addressing GBV against men, although a lot more needs to be done, such as reducing the high cost of living which is among the triggers of violence against men, as they are under pressure to provide for their families” said Mr. Banda.
Mr. Banda said the high cost of living has an implication on the fight against gender based violence as men are over stretched with effects of a poor performing economy.
