National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) says the 2025 National Budget should aim to fix broken promises in the education sector.
Among the broken promises pointed out is the upgrading of salaries for teachers who had attained higher professional qualifications, as promised in October 2022, during 2023 budget presentation by Finance and National Planning Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane.
NAQEZ Executive Director, Aaron Chansa, has told RCV News in Lusaka today that failure to upgrade salaries has negatively impacted teacher morale, affecting their dedication to the Teaching Profession.
Dr. Chansa said the Finance Minister also promised that the 2023 budget would confirm teachers who have been acting in higher positions for many years.
He however said, to date, this promise has not been fulfilled.
“This is another issue that continuously affects the quality of education delivery across the country,” said Dr. Chansa.
And Dr. Chansa has urged government to budget for the installation of solar panels in schools across Zambia so that the education system can be unaffected amid climate change.
“The 2025 national budget is a great opportunity for Government to strengthen the education sector,” said Dr. Chansa.
