The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) says the K500 increment for all civil servants effective 2025 is not sufficient to address the current Financial challenges workers are facing.
Union General Secretary, Nelson Mwale, says most civil servants are in debt because their monthly incomes cannot sustain their needs due to the high cost of living.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Mwale said that the union would have preferred a K2,500 increment that would answer to their challenges.
“The civil servants will take the 500 but the union hopes the increment will be more in 2026,” said Mr. Mwale.
He has therefore called for calm among workers urging them to understand the economical challenges the country is faced with emanating from the impact of the drought.
