FFTUZ APPEAL CALM OVER RETIREMENT AGE

The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) has called for calm among Public Service employees that are above 60 years, who are scared of losing out on their benefits following a circular intended to implement 55years as age for retirement.

The circular obtained and circulated on social media indicates that the retirement age of 55, 60 to 65 years, will only apply to those employed after 2014 and that everyone else before that, will retire at 55 years as per old law.

But Union Secretary General, Nelson Mwale,  says there is no need for apprehension since the Labor movement is engaging the Secretary to the Cabinet during the course of the week to ensure to no one is retired unfairly.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Mwale said the union is looking out to ensure no one loses their retirement benefits.

He said the union will be speaking with respect to the outcome of the court ruling on the matter.

“It must be handled in such a way that it is not injurious to the workers out there,” said Mr. Mwale.
